Alex Lin is an architect, design principal, and the founder of Hopscape Design Studio — a cross-border practice operating between Los Angeles and Shanghai. With over two decades of international experience spanning experiential architecture, mixed-use development, retail, hospitality, and urban design, Alex brings a rare combination of creative vision and commercial rigor to every project.

 

Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). He began his career at Tangguanbee Architects in Singapore, before moving to Los Angeles to join The Jerde Partnership — one of the world's most celebrated practices in urban entertainment and destination design. Rising to Vice President and Design Principal, he led landmark commissions across Asia, the Middle East, and North America, including Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, Langham Place and MegaBox in Hong Kong, Dubai Festival Waterfront Centre, and the SJZ Lerthai Center in Shijiazhuang.

 

In 2012, Alex founded Hopscape Design Studio to pursue a more focused, hands-on practice — working with developers, institutions, and brands on architecture that is deeply rooted in context, culture, and human experience. He directs all creative output, client strategy, and design development across the studio's portfolio, integrating architecture, brand narrative, and spatial experience into destinations that perform both culturally and commercially.

Alex is bilingual in English and Mandarin and has spent his career navigating the intersection of Eastern and Western design cultures — a fluency that gives Hopscape a distinctive edge in cross-border projects across China and the United States.
