Built in 1989, Redhill Plaza - a 74,000 sf strip mall typical of the region - was in great need of a renovation. Due to demographic shifts and the influence of LA County, the clientele has become more sophisticated over the years.

 

Hopscape was commissioned to reconceptualize the exterior into a more casual outdoor lifestyle shopping center. The design achieves this through two main strategies. First, the facade is modernized by hiding the former angled Spanish colonial roof edges, by using supergraphics, and by keeping colors minimal and adding natural looking materials. The second strategy is that of extending the building into the landscape through open-air terraces and adding modern, geometric landscape elements as buffers between inside and outside.
